Annually, 100 outstanding youth of Chinese origin come from around the world to participate in the programme, discuss topical issues of relevance worldwide and form a growing network of young Chinese leaders. In 2008, to commemorate the thirty years of reform and opening-up on the Peopleˇ¦s Republic of China, they will go to the Pearl River Delta Region to witness the rapid economic development and infrastructure that has taken place in Guangdong Province, which is well known as the beginning of the Silk Road on the sea. In Hong Kong, participants will attend plenary sessions and be addressed by distinguished speakers. They will join discussions on the transformation of China during thirty years of reform and opening-up and on Chinese history and culture. They will also visit sites of economic, cultural and historical interest, attend ceremonies and take part in social and cultural events. Activities in Hong Kong will mainly be conducted in English. In the Pearl River Delta Region, participants will meet government officials; visit corporations and sites of economic, infrastructural and industrial significance as well as museums and places of historical and cultural interest in Modern Chinese history. They will also take part in discussions with academics, university students and young professionals on economic and infrastructural history and transformation in China. The 5th Dragon 100 Young Chinese Leaders Forum was held from 23ˇV 31 August 2007 with the theme ˇ§Finding the Footprints of the Dragon: Chinese Culture and the Life of Chinese People.ˇ¨ It consisted of a three-day Programme in Hong Kong and a six-day Study Tour in Henan. About 250 nominations for participation were received from universities, Chinese organizations and large corporations worldwide. From these nominations, the most outstanding 100 from 14 different locations including Australia, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, The Philippines, The United Kingdom, The United States, and Hong Kong were selected for the delegation. During the nine-day programme, these young leaders met with eminent people in Hong Kong and Henan including Mr. XIE Xiaoyan, Deputy Commissioner, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Peopleˇ¦s Republic of China in the HKSAR, Professor David P.Y. LUNG, SBS, MBE, JP, Professor, Department of Architeture, The University of Hong Kong, Council Member of The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, Ms. Ada WONG, JP, Chairman of Wan Chai District Council, Founder and Chair of Hong Kong Institute of Contemporary Culture, Professor Cheng Pai-kai, Director of Chinese Civilisation Center, City University of Hong Kong, and very prominent government officials in Henan, Luoyang, Kaifeng and officials of The All China Youth Federation. The delegation visited museums, heritage sites and educational bodies in Hong Kong and Henan such as The Yuen Yuen Institute, Hong Kong Museum of History, Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum, Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong, The University of Hong Kong; The Native Palace of Emperor Huangdi, Henan Museum, The Shaolin Monastery, Manor of Millionaire Kang, Longmen Grottoes, The Museum of Six-horse Royal Cart, Huayuan Kou, The Yellow River, Millenium City Park, The Memorial Temple of Lord Bao and Zhengzhou University. This programme of education, exploration of Chinese culture and heritage and exchange proved to be an invaluable and unforgettable experience for all participants.
